Kilimanjaro Part 2

Nothing better than hot chocalate when your wet and cold.
Recovering at camp 3 after a long day.

Nearing camp at the end of day 3.

Entering the storm.

My protective face mask.

Keeping warm and dry.

Descending down to camp on day 3.

The storm wasnt passing and we needed to get to camp, so we got wet.

Another view of the camp at the top of the day 3 route. We sat down for lunch in the cave while we waited for the storm to pass.

The camp at the top of our day 3 hike. It is used by other climbers taking a different route.

Day 3 before the storm started.

Day 3 at the start of the storm.

Day 3.

Nearing the top of the day 3 climb.

Biriki and I with the peak in the background. During day 3 mot of the vegetation dissappeared and was replaced by large boulders. It was cold this day.

rOn day 3 we hiked up to about 16 000 feet and then came back down as a way to acclimate. This was nearing the top of the day 3 climb; its about 10 min before the snow, sleet and rain came.

It would of been tough for most people.

I had to lift a rock off another climber.

Setting out at the beginning of day 3. The view of the peak from Camp 2 is in the background.

View of the sun peaking through the clouds after the rainstorm on day 2.

View from the camp at the end of day 2. It was about 5 oclock, we had just returned from our acclimation hike and there was a rainstorm followed by clear skies and a spectacular rainbow over the peak. It was nice.

A view of the bridge leaving camp 1. Towards the upper right the peak of Kilimanjaro is hidden in the clouds.

A view of the sky as the sun was setting over the campsite at the end of day 1. The camp marked the end of the rainforest. The next day the forests were mostly evergreens, but became less sporatic as we climbed higher.

Towards the end of day 1 the rainforest started to thin out into bare trees covered in a type of moss. This is near our campsite at the end of day 1.

Another picture from the beginning of the trail. You can see the impressive balancing acts by the porters on the left. The trail stayed wide for about a half hour and then slimmed down.

Another picture from the beginning of the trail.

Picture from the beginning of the trail. The first day we hiked about 3 hours. It was mostly rainforest. The porters carried equipment on their heads; it was pretty impressive balancing.

Me, Marc and Bariki. Bariki was our guide. Hed climbed Kilimanjaro over 150 times. We were in good hands.
